The general rule of translation is to ‘translate literally when you can, freely when you must.’ The art of a truly good translation is finding a balance between being faithful to the source text, whilst producing a translation that reads naturally in the target language. Too many publications and websites still have English that is awkward and poorly written.
With over 7 years experience as in-house translator for the University of Amsterdam, as well as a freelance translator for a range of clients in the cultural and commercial sector, I can ensure English translations that sing. My experience as a writer/journalist and editor also ensures that the translation will have a graceful and consistent style.
